Brisbane City Council is planning a song and dance when the new-look Frew Park at Milton opens on November 29. FREW Park is set to open on song with a community Christmas party to be the Milton site’s first event.
Councillor Peter Matic (Toowong) and Lord Mayor Graham Quirk inspect the finishing touches to Frew Park, Milton.

The gates will open on November 29. Councillor Peter Matic (Toowong) said the annual party, on the same night, would be switched from nearby Gregory Park.

“We get huge crowds over at Gregory, 600-800, so I’m thinking easily over 1000 (here),” Cr Matic said.

As finishing touches were put on the 3.5ha site this month, Lord Mayor Graham Quirk played down the need for more shade ahead of the summer opening.

“Not everything is about creating shade at every location; it’s also the opportunity to create a range of recreational opportunities,” Cr Quirk said.

The operator for the six new courts and kiosk was announced as Tennis Gear Australia.

Owner Mark Bloomfield said they would keep prices on par with the three other Brisbane sites they ran.

Details of the Christmas party will be confirmed closer to the date but rides, a sausage sizzle and the movie Frozen are on the cards.
