Matchplay Options: Red Ball Hot Shots League
We offer a variety of Red Hot Shots programs throughout the week. There is no minimum playing standard required to become involved in Tennis Gear’s Red Ball Hot Shots lessons! We encourage all players to get involved and take part in this awesome game. As player’s progress and improve their games they will start to achieve the playing standards required to move up through the classes and levels right up to our Red Ball Squad’s! There’s no rush though – Red Baller’s can spend up to 3 years honing their craft on the smaller courts and developing their games right through to squad level!
This is our entry-level class for Red-Ballers and is perfect for first-time players or kids who have played a small amount of tennis. Players will work on developing all of the fundamental skills of tennis including rallying, serving, coming to the net and scoring and competing. By week 8 of the term players will take part in our Rally Awards day which will measure their progress in the following areas: Rally, Serve, Come to the Net, Score and Compete. This will give them the opportunity to progress into the next level of Red Ball Hot Shot classes.
Within each of the four levels, Red Hot Shots players learn and are tested on four important skills:
-
Rally – Learning and developing rallying skill
-
Serve – Learning and developing serving skills
-
Come to the net – Learning and developing movement forwards and volleying
-
Score and Compete – Learning the rules, how to score, how to compete and fair play
The Red stage is for beginners. The red ball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn’t bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it a breeze for even the youngest players to hit it comfortably. The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller and easier for kids to move around.
Players participating in Red Ball Hot Shots should also consider our Red Hot Shots League as the perfect compliment to their Hot Shots group.
- Red court size: 3m × 8.23 or 6m × 10.97
- Tennis ball: Red ball (25 per cent compression)
- Recommended racquet size: 21–23 inches
